I’m a total newbie to the blog-o-sphere! I read them, lots of them. But this is the first time I’ve written one.
First thing you have to know, I won’t be publishing things very often. I’m far too busy doing to write about it. If I have a few minutes (and a cold drink by my side) I may type a few words just to free up the “noise” in my head.
Second, I LOVE quilting! I don’t get to do it as often as I’d like (20 hours a day, if I could) but, I do what I can. If I look back over the years, I’ve made “quilts”, lots of them, but didn’t know that’s what they were. I called them “wallhangings” or “banners” for our church. I had no idea I was doing ‘raw edged applique’ or ‘stitching in the ditch’. I hand quilted with the ladies in our church for years until they disbanded and I felt like I was drifting in the wind. Who would I go to with all my questions? Who could I show & tell to? Who would understand the bloody fingertips along with the huge grin on my face? No one my age (past 40 – just), even knew how to thread a machine, let alone piece a top together! Thus started my frenzy on the “web”. I spent hours scouring the internet for advice and fellow fabric hounds. Imagine my bliss when I saw that there weren’t just a few of us, but many, many of us! There were whole “markets” and trade shows dedicated to the quilting world. Wow! I love the ladies from our church and cherish my years learning from them but, they were very “old school”. I had no idea you could quilt using a machine! Imagine the things I could do….. I still love hand quilting – the precision, the dedication, the love that goes into it. But, I’m impatient and love the speed of machine quilting. I’m not great at it, but I’m learning.
So, here I am. I will try to learn how to take pics of the things I’ve done recently. Don’t expect tutorials anytime soon, I’m not sure I will be able to master the pic uploads as it is. Check in every now and again, maybe I’ll have a new post to share. Thanks for spending your precious time reading my prattle! Time to sew!
