After the gifts were opened and the turkey was eaten, I found time to do a bit of sewing. I finished up my Winter’s Lane place mats (better late than never). I love this fabric line by Kate & Birdie Paper Co. by Moda because it is wintery enough to leave out well past Christmas.
I made 6 place mats in total. Each using the greeting card motif from the panel of this fabric line.
I used a sea foam green from my Kona solid stash that went quite well with the subtle green in the fabric.
I quilted a flower pattern using a stencil pattern and also quilted around the branches and animals in the greeting card design. It’s a bit hard to see but I did pebbles in the flower centre and the stitching around the branches is very intricate. I have to say, it was much easier doing FMQ using a stencil. I find if I have a pattern or a guide of some sort, I can make fairly smooth motions. It’s the free-form, forward-thinking part of the quilting that I’m not comfortable with quite yet. In time, in time.
These beauties are in my dining room right now and I’m looking forward to eating on them soon!
I also got the cutting done for my next quilt.
This pile of fun will become a quilt for my son! It’s not a surprise, he picked out the fabrics and the pattern. I’ll be using the Lil’ Twister tool to make the broken pinwheel design. I’m a little worried about all the ‘scraps’ that will be left over but I guess I’ll be able to use them in other quilts later.
I also received two squishy packages in the mail and should be getting one more shortly. I’ll save that post for a Sunday Stash. For now, I’ll link up with my Friday Finishes!
